Quiet Lights 2021: Lemoncello

Lemoncello are like two halves of a whole. Laura Quirke and Claire Kinsella met in University, and bonded over their mutual love of close harmony and vulnerability in songwriting. Kinsella is an intensely proficient cello player, while Quirke's voice has grown into its own character over time. Together, they have a stunning blend. (EARMILK, 2020) The duo's 'intoxicating...ramshackle and sassy' live shows, (The Journal of Music, 2020), have brought them to perform iconic stages like Other Voices, CCI Paris, and Irish Arts Centre, NYC, lead them to be featured as one of The Irish Times 'Bands and Singers to Watch for in 2019' and nominated as ‘Best Emerging Folk Act’ in the RTEÌÂ Radio 1 Folk Awards 2019.

Their latest release 'Oil and Water’(2020) is a 4-track lyrical reflection on the fragile, contradictory and temporary aspects of our human nature; conquered and uplifted by a soundscape of close vocal harmony, cello, guitar, double bass and harp instrumentation. 'A lot to examine in four songs, but the effect of added instrumental complexity .. and lyrics that show confidence in their emotional reach means this EP is a revelation - detailed by the light and shade of psychological insight, and illuminated by the radiance of the music Lemoncello make together.' (From The Margins, 2020) 'Baroque Folk, good for the head and heart' (The Irish Times, 2019) 'Lemoncello have carved out a unique, increasingly compelling niche in Irish alternative folk... cello, guitar and the pair’s interweaving vocal motifs marry in exquisite fashion.' (The Thin Air, 2019) Successful in receiving MISP funding as well The Arts Council Music Bursary Award in 2020, this year sees Lemoncello collaborate with renowned analogue producer and engineer Julie McLarnon (Lankum, Brigid Mae Power, Yorkston Thorne Khan), in creating their first album at Analogue Catalogue Studios.
