The Laneway is an independent artist-led art gallery which aims to showcase the contemporary art that is being created in Cork City and other parts of Ireland.

The Gallery is located at the back of a short laneway at the top of Shandon Street in the historic Shandon district on the northside of the city.

Shandon is full of character and is home to the iconic Shandon Tower, the Firken Crane and the Butter Market. Each year at the end of October it hosts the popular Dragon of Shandon, a street parade celebrating Samhain, the Gaelic festival marking the beginning of winter.

Its old narrow streets are well worth a visit to explore.

In the 1800’s the current building comprised of three small cottages known as Twomey’s Cottages which were located on one of the city’s many laneways off the main thoroughfare leading to the North Gate Drawbridge of the old city (at the end of North Main Street).

More recently, and for many years, it was a second hand furniture shop, well known in the area.
