Terence MacSwiney will always be remembered as the republican Lord Mayor of Cork who died in Brixton Prison on 25 October 1920 after 74 days on hunger strike. However, there was many aspects to MacSwiney’s life. He was a politician, soldier, poet, playwright, patriot, husband., and father. In this presentation, Gerry White looks at the life of Terence MacSwiney, the times he lived in, the contribution he made to Ireland’s fight for freedom and how his sacrifice inspired freedom fighters in other parts of the world.
