Stevie G

Stevie G is an Irish DJ at Cork’s RedFM, who is also a regular feature at music and arts festivals and events throughout the country.

He is one of Ireland’s best-known DJs and is regarded as a pioneer for platforming local and international hip-hop, soul, R&B and afro-beats. He has been active since the 90s and has DJ’ed alongside legends such as Beyoncé, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z and Lauryn Hill. He is an integral part of the Irish music scene, this summer appearing at Longitude, Body and Soul, All Together Now, Cork Pride, Another Love Story and Electric Picnic festivals.

Qbanaa

In the year since she released her debut single, Qbanaa has established herself as one of the rising stars of an Irish music scene who is continuing to incorporate and champion new influences, cultures and sounds. The artist’s new single reflects on her own journey, both on a personal and musical level. Written as a swansong for her early twenties, ‘Mundo En Mis Manos / World in My Hands’ details her experience of being prescribed antidepressants at a very early age and then falling into a deep addiction that lasted years.

Growth and healing came from the fact that she had to forgive. In keeping with the lyrical content, the music on ‘Mundo En Mis Manos / World in My Hands’ finds joy in the darkness. While her Cuban heritage comes to the fore in the rhythms, there are many other elements: scratchy guitar reminiscent of the West African desert blues sound of Tinariwen, Latin-inspired bass lines, soul power horns and modern synths. It’s loose, fluid, kind of chaotic and a nod to a more tumultuous time, but also representing breaking loose from the past.

Based in Dublin, Q spent her early years travelling back and forth to Cuba, where music and salsa dancing were integral parts of her childhood alongside singing in school choirs and with her grandmother in Spanish Mass.

Influenced by a blend of soul, jazz, Latin and contemporary genres, her 2022 debut single ‘Truth and Desire’ was nominated for Track of the Year by Hot Press, while ‘Rise Above’ was featured on Spotify playlists. Selected by District Magazine in the summer for their Future of Irish Music in 2023, July’s ‘Shrink’ saw her explore a new pop and drum and bass influenced sound and made an immediate impact. Live shows across the summer included Body & Soul, All Together Now, Electric Picnic and Music Town festivals with her cohort of incredible musicians, regularly performing as a seven piece.

She has also founded Soul Juice – a jazz/soul open mic and jam night in the Sugar Club. The event’s ethos is to build a community around the jazz-fusion scene in Dublin and to showcase rising talent in the genre.
