Inspired by invisible forces of nature, both benevolent and malevolent, Unseen is a new multidisciplinary performance from Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company created by abstract painter Stacey White and choreographer Tara Brandel, premiering Friday 27th & Saturday 28th October at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen as part of Uillinn Dance Season 2023. An exploration of vital but invisible parts of our existences and ecosystems, Unseen makes the unseeable, present and felt, via live performance and visual arts installation layering video projection, contemporary dance, sound, text, and mixed media paintings, with video design by Luca Truffarelli and sound design by Niall O’Carroll. Unseen examines the invisible forces that shape the course of lives, ranging from life-giving microscopic organisms to Tara and Stacey’s personal experiences living with hidden disabilities. Over 50% the world’s oxygen is produced by plankton, a microscopic organism undetectable by the naked eye. Since 2019 Stacey has gathered waters from multiple global locations to develop microscopic images of plankton which she has used to create an extensive body of abstract paintings. Spanning 4 years of interdisciplinary collaboration between dance and visual art, and extensive research including working at Loch Hyne Marine Reserve with scientists from University College Cork, Unseen is finally premiering as a performance.
