Richmond was bought by Debbie and Fiachra Ó Cinnéide in 2020 and the family moved in the August of the same year. The house sits on approximately seven acres of land which is a fraction of the original estate, and is an oasis surrounded by urban and residential development.
The official name ‘Richmond, An Gáirdín Rúndach’, whilst longwinded, acknowledges our history of occupation and the landlord class whilst also paying tribute to our language which is central to our culture and identity. For our international readers, An Gáirdín Rúndach simply means ‘The Secret Garden’.
Richmond House is a listed landmark building in the heart of the town and is in need of some restoration which is primarily cosmetic. Due to the zonation and listed status of the property, it is of little development value which ideally suits Debbie and Fiachra’s civic nature and their vision for Richmond.
It is our vision that whilst Richmond, An Gáirdín Rúndach is a private home, it can also serve as a cultural hub for the community where creative artists can display and express their craft in a unique centralised period setting. We plan to develop Richmond into a special place for the creative community and lovingly restore both the exterior and interior of the property in the process.
