Velvin Lamont, with a name like that some would say he was destined for stardom. Velvin was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. He grew up surrounded by music. His earliest memory is of singing along with their baptist church choir when accompanying his mom to rehersals. With his mother tragically passing away in her mid- thirties, Velvin was forced to grow up at a young age, calling himself The Son of Love after his mother Dorothy Love. He performed in multiple groups before dedicating himself to a career as a solo artist. He cut his teeth in multiple LA venues such as The House of Blues, The Roxy Theatre, The Viper Room, BB Kings Blues Club, The Music Box and Florentine Gardens and an ongoing list of other venues. The singer has also shared the stage with artists such as acclaimed rapper Biggie Smalls, Da Brat, Jon B, Glenn Lewis and East Coast hip hop duo Nice and Smooth. Spurred on by his Irish wife, Velvin followed his heart to Cork.
Coached on by his rebel family he decided to audition for The Voice of Ireland. He wowed the judges with his rendition of Stevie Wonders Signed, Sealed, Delivered and then went on to beat his rival in the Battles with a stunning version of Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival, advancing to the live shows. Since then Velvin has been performing at the Cork Opera House in numerous shows. He gave a spectacular performance as Teen Angel in Grease and he also gave a jaw dropping performance as the Genie in Aladdin. As well as doing local fundraisers and charity events Velvin has performed in Pheonix Park, Dublin for the US embassys 4th of July celebrations alongside bands such as Kodaline and Hermitage Green. He was also honoured to perform at Cork City Hall for the Chamber of Commerce.
