The Spirit of Mother Jones Festival celebrates the life and activities of Cork woman, Mary Harris known throughout the world as Mother Jones. Mary was baptised at the North Cathedral on 1st August 1837.

She emigrated and went on to become possible the most famous trade union leader in history.

The festival held in Shandon in the heart Cork City aims to be relevant, interesting and challenging. The voluntary Cork Mother Jones Committee organises talks and lectures to examine social justice issues, human rights, trade union matters and heritage/history topics. We support the efforts to promote women in the narrative of history.

Our aim is to have music, singing, poetry, documentaries and talk at our events and for people meet informally and make friendships. Our tenth annual festival takes place this year mostly online due to Covid-19 and will be broadcast by Cork Community Television ( or Virgin Media 809). Full programme details on
