The 11th annual Spirit of Mother Jones Festival takes place in and around Shandon in late July each year. It is named in honour of American social justice and labour activist Mother Jones who was born in the area in 1837.

The festival is free and open to all and includes talks, documentaries, music, singing, walks, dance and discussions on topics connected to trade unions, social justice and human rights issues as well as history and heritage events.

The festival took place online in 2020 and 2021, this year we will hold over 20 real events it will take place at the Shandon Maldron Hotel, the Firkin Theatre and on the streets of Shandon, the historic heart of Cork City.
