Masters of Tradition, the five-day festival featuring a series of performances covering the full spectrum of Irish traditional music, kicks off in Bantry on Wednesday, August 22nd and continues until Sunday, 26th August.

The Festival is headlined by its Artistic Director Martin Hayes, the fiddler from East Clare. At the opening concert on Wednesday, August 22nd, at the Maritime Hotel, Martin will be joined by longtime collaborator, Dennis Cahill, harpist Tríona Marshall, mandolin player Marla Fibish and sean nós dancer Stephanie Keane.

A not to be missed' concert will be the appearance of Navá the Irish/Iranian foursome who explore the relationship between the ancient musical cultures of Ireland and Persia. They will be in Bantry House at 7.30pm on Saturday 25th along with Cormac Begley on concertina.

One of the many festival highlights promises to be Martin Hayes in conversation with the Oscar Winning Actor and West Cork Resident, Jeremy Irons, where they will discuss influences, music, performance, presence and the similarities between music and acting. This much anticipated event will take place on Sunday August 26th at 3.30pm in The Maritime Hotel.

Over the five days of the festival there will also be performances and collaborations from sean nós singer Nell Ní Chróinín, uilleann piper David Power, multi instrumentalist Eamon O'Leary, guitarist Steve Cooney, the transatlantic folk duo The Murphy Beds, the poet David Whyte and concertina player Cormac Begley.
