Mapping the Divide is a creative exploration into the effects of technology on our body, mind and environment. Children are invited to take part in a dance summer camp. Students will be invited to journey into the body and out to the landscape, to bring awareness of the direct sensory and kinaesthetic relationship we have with our environment. Using gathered materials chosen from the landscape, they will explore textures, patterns, smells, sights and sounds. Then movements will be choreographed from this investigation to create a site-specific, pop-up performance for Skibbereen Arts Festival.

'Attuning' facilitated by Mairead

'Attuning' facilitates a range of developmental movement practices

that re-organise our nervous system bringing right and left brain

activity into balance. This carefully designed movement series

enhances sensory-motor activity (sensory awareness), proprioception (kinaesthetic/spatial awareness), cognition (focus, memory, clear thinking) while cultivating energy and opening to creativity.

Art explorations facilitated by Tomasz Madajczak

Through intuitive interactions with the space of the art centre and

its surroundings, Tomasz will explore the idea of ephemeralness,

unity, simultaneity, fragmentation and re-creation. The group will be

invited to create tactile relationship with the surrounding

environment in the form of site-specific installations and ephemeral

experiences using simple art materials, found objects, thread and thin plastic. The aim of the workshop is to create a sense of familiarity, safety and openness to creative processes while challenging ideas.

Outdoor journeying - 'Attuning' to site

Sensory mapping through movement (developing sensory awareness), finding/collecting outdoor materials/objects (developing tactile response), interacting with each other and environment through sculpting, balancing (developing proprioception) and building daily performance responses.

Creation of choreographic work

"Mapping the Divide" aims to re-address the impact of technology on our body-mind and environment, through movement, art, creativity and expression. A creative space allows for experimentation out of which we will choreograph a performed response to site.
