Fintan McKahey writes, records and produces his own music from the haven of his home studio, set amidst the rolling hills of wild West Cork, vistas that inspire the imagery present in his song lyrics. Over the winter, he has lovingly upgraded this creative space to facilitate practice with his full band, with whom he will be touring in 2020.
Fintan’s latest offering Platinum is a missive to magic. The song is an eclectic, down tempo, alt-pop production, inspired by Ben Howard and Chet Faker. Echoing the dark sultry mood of his last single The Rebound Effect, which spoke of climate crisis and lured the listener in to share a dreamscape, revealing glimpses of a post-apocalyptic void. Fintan’s music has evolved from the more indie-folk, percussive style of his debut EP Two Lifetimes Late.
God Games EP was released in 2019 and resonates with his earlier rites-of-passage through Kenya, Thailand and Peru. The lead track God Games is a love song, which invites the listener to transcend the mundane, venture forth and imagine other realms. ‘Fintan: Genesis of an Artist’ a short film by Stephen H Bean, documents the creation of that record. It screened at several film festivals last year and may be viewed now on Fintan’s YouTube channel. The songs were well received, with both the title track and accompanying video selected by BBC Radio Ulster (Across the Line: Introducing ), Corks RedFM (Local Legend: Dave Mac’s Drive) Corks 96FM, Dublin Radio, Eirewave (Best Irish Indie Playlist) GoldenPlec, JOE dot ie, KCLR (Irish Music Show: Song of the Week), Today FM (Artist of the Day) WLR, 8Radio, PureMzine and Play Irish.
