Join us this Culture Night 2019, in Nano Nagle Place where we have a jam packed schedule of events for people of all ages to enjoy! Here is our full schedule of events for the night: 16.00 – 17.00 | ‘Know Your Media’ | Conference Space | In this series called ‘Know Your Media’, young people from the Cork Life Centre present six short ten minute programmes. They present profiles of the different types of social media platforms used by young people and talk to young people on the streets of Cork about their media usage. There are also interviews on how different topics such as gender, disability and the environment are portrayed in the media. The finished programmes will be broadcast every Wednesday at 8pm, commencing on 18th September 2019 on Cork Community Television, which is available on Channel 803 on Virgin Media’s digital cable package and online on www.corkcommunitytv.ie. The series has been funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland under their Sound & Vision scheme. For further information, contact Frameworks Films at info@frameworksfilms.com or 021-4211010. 16.30 – 17.00 | The Story of Nano Nagle | The Goldie Chapel | A children’s theatre piece for 5-12 year old’s telling the story of the founder of the Presentation Sisters Nano Nagle. 17.00 – 21.00 | Green Schools Travel and Climate Action Crafts and Disco | Heritage Lecture Theatre | Arts and Crafts corner with a big BIKE collage where we learn to RE-CYCLE! Bling your helmet – bring your bike helmet to decorate, Climate and Travel Poetry Slam, Interactive Puppets, AND the Captain Climate Global Citizenship sing-along and climate disco! The Climate Ambassador programme is Ireland’s first ever initiative to train and support individuals taking action on climate change. The programme is co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce with support from the Department of Communication, Climate Action and Environment. The programme runs for the full calendar year and during that time provides lots of opportunities to meet Climate Action Officers, and also to meet other Climate Ambassadors, to develop, share and learn from each other’s ideas and experiences. The Green Schools Travel Programme’s ultimate aim is to increase the number of students walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport or carpooling on the way to school. For more info see: www.greenschoolsireland.org 17.30 – 18.15| Music with T. J. Manning of the Lantern Community Project | Goldie Chapel | The Lantern’s own singer/songwriter T.J. Manning will be performing in the beautiful Goldie Chapel as part of our Culture Night programme. Don’t miss a performance of his original song all about Nano Nagle! 18.00 – 21.00 | GASP Artists Showcase | Conference Space | The GASP Artist Studio Programme are a supported studio based in the Crawford Art Gallery and CIT Crawford College – Arts in Health and Education Department. These artist workshops are facilitated by Karolina Poplawska and Mairead O’Callaghan. Nano Nagle Place approached the GASP artists in March of this year, asking if they would create work inspired by Nano Nagle’s story, and our beautiful 3.5 acre site. This Culture Night their Nano inspired work will be exhibited in our Conference Space for the first time! There will be a meet and greet with the GASP artists and Yvonne Condon will be creating one-of-a-kind speed portraits of visitors on the night. 18.00 – 20.00 | The Food Choice Machine at Good Day Deli | Good Day Deli | Good Day Deli, Nano Nagle Place and Alan Macilwraith from JCA Architects joined forces to design a “Food Choice Machine” for the Design POP festival in 2019. The aim of the Choice Machine is to educate participants about simple but sustainable food choices that are better for your health and the environment. Participants will leave learning that small changes to their own purchasing decisions collectively have big benefits for the environment. 18.30 – 19.00 | Cork Migrant Centre Hip-Hop Teens Performance | Goldie Chapel | Cork Migrant Centre Dance group comprised of migrant girls living in Cork. The group has been together for a year under the mentorship of Red FM DJ Stevie G and dance Instructor Andrea Williams. They have performed at various events ranging from Africa Day in Cork, UCC Refugee Week, UCC Music Variety Show, and Dell Technologies, & the Goldie Chapel, Nano Nagle Place. In Cork, they have become a ‘must see hip-hop crew’ with the usual ‘swaga’ associated hip-hop! 19.30 – 20.00 | Organ recital with our newly restored Victorian Organ by James Taylor | Goldie Chapel | Our newly restored organ is ready for it’s first public performance! Join us in the Goldie Chapel for what will be a magical recital by Lecturer in Music at CIT Cork School of Music, James Taylor. And keep you ears pealed, there might be a few surprises in store! 20.30 – 21.00 | The Story of Nano Nagle | Goldie Chapel | An excerpt from Ocean of Notions Theatre Company site specific drama, ‘Path Through the Dark: The Story of Nano Nagle’. AND don’t forget to check out our ongoing photography exhibition ‘The Changing Face of Cork City! which will be on display until the end of September!
